Quarto. (4)ff. Printed on paper from the Doves Press. With woodcuts and hand-illuminated initials by Valenti Angelo. Signed by William Cameron, the printer; inscribed by Ed Grabhorn, ("This is a sloppy job" he notes, "but good company and good liquor went into it."); signed by Valenti Angelo, who echoes Grabhorn's sentiments. Unfortunately (because the pages delight the eye) "all that Esope had to tell was not printed, because the idea of both the author's and the printer's art was sufficiently covered by this beginning of a book." The four columns of text include the preface and four fables, with three lovely illustrations. Grabhorn would produce an edition of Aesop in 1930, in a smaller format and with decorations by Angelo. Original blue wrappers show a short tear to spine head, and slight wrinkling around printed cover title label. Overall a nearly fine copy of a rare piece of California printing.
