Octavo. (x), 123pp. With a stunning wood-engraved frontispiece showing Adam delving and Eve spinning, with little Cain and Abel playing about their feet, amid the lush foliage of Eden. The design is by Edward Burne-Jones, and the border and the lettering, both by Morris, were carved on the same block. Morris also designed a white-vine border for the first text page, a floral border to the first page of "A King's Lesson," and initials throughout. This title has the distinction of being the first Kelmscott book to bear an illustration. The text recounts the story of a socialist's dream about the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, under Wat Tyler and the priest John Ball. Printed in Morris' Golden Type, with marginal notes in red. Bound in original limp vellum titled in gilt on spine. Spine lightly toned; one yellow silk tie intact, one laid in. (Peterson A6)
