Quarto. 92pp. Six engravings by Webb, illustrating various military exploits and battles recounted in the text. The original work, titled Gesta Francorum et Aliorum Hierosolimitanorum, was the diary of a cavalry officer in Asia Minor, Syria, and Palestine. The original manuscript from 1101 is lost; instead, De Chair's translation relies on a collation of three manuscripts located in Madrid and at the Vatican. Bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe in vellum-cover boards with gilt crusaders riding across the front panel and gilt titling to spine. A provocative title for the end of the Second World War. Fine. Housed in orange slipcase, lightly worn. Bookplate of former owner to front pastedown.
