Octavo. 624pp. Made entirely of hemp paper, Krings's monumental documentary project advocates for the use of hemp as a remarkably sustainable and variable material, fit for book production, consumer goods, construction materials, textiles, and medicine, among many other uses. By adopting the structure of an alphabet - from "A is for Alpine Hemp" to "F is for Food" to "W is for Work" (the concluding letter) - Krings deftly educates the reader on the subject. Materiality, tactility, visuality, and textuality all work together to impress the urgency of the climate crisis and the hope to be found in plants available all around us. Bound in orange wrappers printed in white and black. The paper is entirely uncoated, which as the rear panel warns, makes the book susceptible to light rubbing, as evinced here. As fine as can be.
