Quarto. 92pp. The central figure of this issue is Fidelio Ponce de Leon, whose idiosyncratic Cubism informs the artistic program. Ponce de Leon was a member of the Cuban "Vanguardia," along with figures like Wifredo Lam and Victor Manuel. Unlike his peers, however, Ponce de Leon's modernism retained a singularly Cuban flair. Though influenced by contemporary Europeans, he never studied there. Dedicated to him is a pergamino (folded broadside) pocketed in, also one of 200 copies. Ediciones Vigía developed the magazine, which was its largest publishing enterprise, in order to platform a greater variety of writers and artists, both Cuban and not. Bound in brown corrugated wrappers with collaged covers. Some overall spotting and rubbing, else very good. A foundational artifact of a significant Cuban press.
