Folio. 10ff photocollages + 30 postcards + facsimile letter + additional color photograph. Messager and Toussaint conceived the work as a secret archive of correspondence, and what began as an imagined liaison here blurs into an actual, material relationship between two artists. Over a five-month period, Messager send Toussaint 15 postcards of her artwork, which he returned with commentary - both sides of the exchange are presented here in their separate envelopes, housed in the box's flaps. The photocollages which lay in the box tray toy with motifs of romance, especially of those found in noir films. The whole is a secretive, playful treatment of artistic affinities and their contortions in the archive. Portfolio covered in red cloth stamped in black. Fine.
