Four separate three-panel accordions unfurl from four different panels, these opening out to display a highly textured sculpture of one of the Pyramids of Giza. Each accordion discusses in brief one of the core concepts motivating the construction and purpose of the pyramids and their significance to Egyptian religion: death, the mummy, ka (a person's vitality), and ba (a person's soul). Various hieroglyphs printed in blue decorate all four segments, which are all held in place with envelopes closed with teal thread and a bead meant to be wrapped around a button. All elements, including the pyramid sculpture, are backed in cork and paper-covered boards. Boards flip up into sides of box, fixed upright by constructed lid painted in green and metallic copper, and with stern pharaoh visage inlaid. Fine. (2 1/2 by 2 1/2 by 2 1/4 in.)
