Quarto. 8pp. An essay by Jenkins on W. W. Heartsill's Fourteen Hundred and 91 Days in the Confederate Army, with a leaf from the original printing. Heartsill's journal was only printed in an edition of 100 copies, a limitation disproportionate to its importance to the print history of the Civil War and the record of everyday military life, a history which Jenkin's lucidly explains in his brief excursus. The present leaf is of page 207/208, held in a pocket at the sheet preceding the colophon. Bound in quarter gray leather with white cloth over boards. Minimal rubs, else fine. (Disbound and Dispersed 169)
