Hand-colored and collaged scroll, measuring 39 1/2 inches (100 cm) in length. Glissant was, and still is, highly influential in postcolonial literature and poetry, especially in its formation around the Caribbean. Hailing from Martinique, Glissant was an outspoken proponent of the independence of French colonies, especially in the wake of WWII. His interest in a "hybrid" Caribbean identity is here on display, in this collaboration with a Cuban publisher and Cuban artists. Includes an affixed section of fishing net and band of raffia for hanging. Fine, with paper belly band.
