Designed to promote an exhibition of Kennedy's work, the poster seizes its moment to stake Kennedy's ultimate claim: that the post-racial ideal is a fiction distracting us from the real work of dismantling racism. Hence his use of a stereotypical "Mammy" figure; Kennedy frequently recruits such imagery to insist upon the history of racism and remind us of its persistence. Fine. (19 by 12 1/2 in.)
