Near-miniature. 346pp. Frontispiece designed by Jean Michel Moreau and cut by Noel Le Mire shows an intriguing Arcadian scene of a female orator holding a sword and declaiming before an audience of two. Cicero's excursus is printed on pale blue paper in type attributed at the colophon to Pierre-Simon Fournier. Bound in red morocco over boards with gilt rules at covers, gilt rolls along edges and dentelles, with spine in five compartments with gilt titling and ornament. This copy with a fore-edge painting showing Roman ruins, seemingly synthesizing the Roman Forum and the Curia Julia (Senate House). Joints rubbed, especially at head, but nevertheless very sturdy. Mild soiling to covers, further moderate rubs to edges and corners, else very good with a bright, clean interior.
