Octavo. (34)pp. Printed letterpress on handmade paper made entirely of local fibers is Silveira's retellings of seven orishas, divine spirits central to Yoruba religion and its wider diaspora, especially in the Caribbean. In Cuba specifically, the Santería and Lucumí traditions developed out of the African slave trade, the latter distinguishing itself by syncretizing elements of Catholicism and casting orishas as saints. Orishas are grouped according to colors, and these feature here as bookmarks delineating one figure from the next. Bound in paper wrappers overprinted to resemble burlap, then stab-bound. Expected rubs to extremities, else near fine.
