Two accordion strands of seven panels each, together explaining in brief Tulipomania, the economic and botanical explosion that has long seemed to defy all rationality. Jacobs describes, too, the evolutionary peculiarity of tulips that spurred the phenomenon: tulips respond uniquely well to mutations, or "breaks," which added constant novelty to their cultivation. Along with the book are two hand-crafted models, one of the Semper Augustus strain and the other of the Schoon Solffer. These held in drawers in a constructed box, along with the book, which is bound in marbled papers with purple paper to spine accented with beads. The whole is made of hand-marbled and commercial papers, polyester film, wood, metal, plastic, hot glue, waxed linen thread, glass beads, coarse pumice gel, acrylic paint, and colored pencils. An impressive undertaking, and a cabinet of curiosities in miniature. Fine. (2 3/4 by 1 1/2 in.)
