Six-panel accordion-fold, with two negatives of the residences at Taos Pueblo pasted on. At the fold between the third and fourth panels is affixed a 12-page booklet briefly describing the history of Taos, or as an improved translation of the Tewa Nation word, the Place of the Red Willow. Jacobs's timeline includes conquests of the region, treaties made and kept or broken, the arrivals of 20th-century modernists like D. H. Lawrence, Aldous Huxley, and Mabel Dodge. Of particular interest, and informing the sculptural boards for the book, is the pueblos' architecture. The covers reconstruct in paper and wood a miniature pueblo, with door, window, and bird motif. Fine. (2 1/2 by 2 1/2 by 2 1/4 in.)
