54pp. Each chapter opens with an enlarged initial, which has been decorated with elements from the Thomas's travels in Africa. In boards covered with handmade brown paper that has been printed with a zebra pattern. When opened, the front cover folds down to reveal a decorative, stab-bound binding. Printed on one side only on handmade paper that has a subtle brown and white zebra stripe design on the verso. Carefully tucked into a pocket in the front cover are two samples of handmade paper from Zimbabwe and South Africa. This fascinating account describes a trip the Thomas family took to the two countries in order to meet with local artisans and teach workshops on papermaking, printing, and book binding. Extremely fine. (Bradbury, p. 307). (3 by 2 3/16; 75x56mm).
