Oversized proof plate from Willy Pogany's Mother Goose, illustrating the numbers one through five and a child's finger in the mouth of a caught fish. Below the image is the rhyming text, whose simple, clever meter assists a young learner in remembering their numbers. Plate shows fair soiling, small dotted stain to image, else near fine and immediately charming. Together with: First edition, fourth printing, of Pogany's graphically and lyrically playful take on the classic Mother Goose nursery rhymes. Illustrated throughout in both color and black-and-white. The image from the proof plate appears near the rear of the volume, just preceding "Sing a song of sixpence". Bound in full blue cloth, worn at edges. Original dust wrapper intact but tatty. Very good.
