Octavo. (56)pp. Engravings throughout by Wagener, including as frontispiece, are printed in black and glimmering red. Wagener's ability to translate the splashing, fluid form of calligraphy to the geometrical impositions of wood engraving is a remarkable feat and altogether fitting for Bringhurst's poems on the gestures of language. They dovetail especially well with his works that incorporate Japanese kanji. Bound in half black leather with gray paper edged in red over boards and with gilt-stamped leather label to spine. Extra engraving held in paper folio, and this housed together with the book in a slipcase. Fine.
