24mo. 54pp + 12 plates. A philosophical treatise on fine binding, with exhibitory reproductions to give the reader an introductory sense of the subject. After moving to Memphis from Germany in 1884, Zahn quickly became a fixture on the national and international binding scene. He has inscribed this copy to Lindlahr, whom he generously grants the title of doctor. Beginning in the 1930s, Lindlahr, a trained osteopath, peddled in fad diets; fortunately, Zahn's inscription is dated in 1925. Bound in printed blue-gray wrappers. Modest foxing and shallow rubs to exterior, endpapers likewise foxed, else very good. A surprisingly scarce book, but significant to the history of fine book production in Memphis.
